ST. ALOYSIUS CHURCH
BOWLING GREEN, OH
Dear Friends,
Happy Fourth Sunday of Advent! I hope that all of you are happy that Christmas is only four days away. For those of you
who are panicked at the thought of Christmas being so close at hand, I encourage you to find a quiet place and spend a few
moments asking God to give you His peace and love. A good nap and healthy food may help too!
This weekend we light the final candle on our Advent wreath. This season of waiting is almost completed. Let us keep each
other in our prayers as we get closer to the celebration of Jesus’ birthday. Let us especially remember and pray for those who
are celebrating these holidays without a loved one for the first time. Let us also remember those who are struggling with life.
There are many people in our midst who are struggling with physical health, mental health, finances, relationships, addictions,
identity, vocational calling and a myriad of issues and challenges. Let us not forget that whatever we do for any of them we do
for Jesus. After all, it is HIS birthday!
Please join us for Mass on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day. On Wednesday, December 24 we will have liturgies at 4:00 p.m,
6:30 p.m., and 11:00 p.m. We will have a 10:00 a.m. Mass on Christmas Day. I have found all of the liturgies prayerful over
the years but the 4:00 Mass is a lot more crowded (623 in a church that holds 400) than the others. If you are able to attend
one of the other Masses, it would be helpful to us, but please COME to whatever you can make. This year, we should have
overflow seating in the new narthex. Those in the narthex should be able to participate in the liturgy through a new 80”
monitor. As always, I ask all of us to MAKE ROOM in our church for everyone who joins us this Christmas. No matter
where people are on their faith journey, let us help them to see Jesus in us!
Speaking of great hospitality and a spirit of powerful celebration, I would like to thank Maria Ybanes and all of the people
who helped with the Our Lady of Guadalupe Mass and potluck this past Sunday. The Mass was beautiful, the meal was
terrific, we had a great turnout, and everyone had a great time. Thanks to all of those who brought food, decorated and helped
in any way. Special thanks to all of those who contributed to bringing the mariachi band. I thought that their
live music was tremendous and added a great deal to our event.
Let us keep one another in prayer and love as we get closer and closer to the celebration of Jesus’ birthday.
Peace and Prayers,
Fr. Mark

FOURTH SUNDAY OF ADVENT
DECEMBER 21, 2014
FIRST SAT - JAN. 3, 2015 - 7 PM - CLARE HALL
PRAYERFUL PRACTICE FOR THE NEW YEAR
Begin the year with an evening of food and great conversation with a group of adults of all ages. We grow together in
faith with brief video presentations from Fr. Robert Barron.
Fr. Barron is an excellent teacher-theologian who presents
topics related to the Catholic faith in clear, meaningful
ways that lead to lively discussions. All adults are welcome
to join this group. Come and begin the New Year with us.
There is no cost or obligation for the evening. Bring a
friend.
Lial Renewal Center invites you to participate in a Holy
Yoga series on six Tuesdays, January 6 – February 10, from
2 – 3 p.m. Holy Yoga is a hatha yoga practice that combines yoga postures with meditation on the Scriptures. This
form of Christian yoga is practiced with prayer and contemporary Christian music to help facilitate a mind-body-spirit
experience of worship of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. It
incorporates relaxation, the use of breath, strength, flexibility, balance and circulation and requires no prior experience. Holy Yoga instructor Jessica Markowitz hopes to
guide participants into a deeper relationship with Jesus
Christ. Cost: $75/series or $14/session. Registration deadline is January 2.

ST. LOUIS HELPING HANDS SOUP KITCHEN
In November we served 200 meals. I pray that all those
involved in making this ministry alive really appreciate all
we have. Because in December our turn would fall on
Christmas Eve day and the kitchen will be closed. Our next
rotation to the kitchen will be January 28. We have turkeys
that need to be cooked, shredded and returned to the
freezer. Again we are seeking more volunteers to help
with the precooking of the meat. We have several of our
workers doing all the cooking because no one is coming to
do it. Maybe several volunteers could make a New Years
Resolution to cook a turkey, several chickens or whatever
meat we may have each month. If you would like to help
we car pool from St. Al's (right now with construction we
meet in the Clough Street lot) at 8:00 AM. Thanks and
many blessing to all those who helped the poor and marginal during the last year.

WOOD COUNTY
HOSPITAL VISITS
If you are hospitalized we may not know about it.
Every Tuesday, volunteers from St. Al’s bring Communion to all who are on the Catholic list at Wood
County Hospital. But the list is often incomplete and
so we miss many Catholics. Please call the Parish Office to let us know if you or someone you know is in
Wood County Hospital.
If you would like a Mass intention to be said please
contact Sharon Hall at 419-352-4195 or email
[email protected] The cost is $10.00.
On November 26, 2014 the Most Reverend Daniel E. Thomas, Bishop of Toledo, accepted the following text as the
official policy of the Diocese of Toledo relating to Level 3
Snow Emergencies. This policy is effective immediately:
Whenever a county/city within the Diocese of Toledo is
placed under a Level 3 Snow Emergency, during which all
roadways are closed to non-emergency personnel, the
Catholic Churches within that geographic region will cancel the scheduled Saturday Vigil, Sunday, or Holy Day
Masses. Roman Catholics in that region, therefore, are
dispensed from the obligation to attend Mass. If Masses
are cancelled, Catholics are encouraged to participate in
Holy Mass via television, radio, or internet, making a spiritual Communion. When Mass is cancelled, all other diocesan, parish, or school events in that geographic region are
also cancelled.
NOT ABLE TO GET TO
CHURCH?
If because of age, illness or other
reasons you are not able to come to
church, please let us know. If your
health does not allow you to take
part in the Mass, we want to keep
our connection with you by bringing you Communion at home. We
have a number of Ministers of
Holy Communion who are trained
and want to bring the Eucharist to you in your home.
Fr. Mark and our deacon’s also try to visit our homebound parishioners on a regular basis. Please let us
know if you or someone you know has not been able
to get to church, so that we can get connected again.
