management, enterprise resource planning,
quality control, manufacturing control and
inventory management systems. This information
is then used as the foundation for triggering
automation and workflow events conducted by
Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), guided
vehicles, fork trucks, sorting system, etc.

CDO Optimizer is used to orchestrate
work-in-process operations
Combining automatic-identification, enterprise data
and the manufacturing assets allowed a major global
manufacturer to reduce costs, eliminate waste, and
improve quality.
1 Passive Gen 2 UHF RFID tags were applied
to physical assets and imbedded into the
manufacturing floor. Data stored on the tags is
collected by fork trucks as they move assets
through the facility. CDO Optimizer ensures quality
by using RFID data to validate the right asset is
placed in the right making position at the right time.

2 CDO Optimizer pulls data from the washout bay
PLCs to determine the status of each bay. .Since
each asset contains an RFID tag, CDO Optimizer
determines how the asset was last used and what
washout formulation is to be used. This direction
is then written back to the PLC. Visibility and
data interaction has reduced material waste and
increased quality.
3 CDO Optimizer uses enterprise data to determine
what products are to be packed, orchestrates the
retrieval and movement of assets to the making
systems, and then instructs the fork trucks to bring
readied material to the packaging line. By monitoring
the status of making materials queued at the
packaging system, CDO Optimizer reduced down
time and eliminated product spoilage.
