Dear Friends, Volunteers and Supporters of Hope 4 (Rugby ) Ltd.
Advent 2014
INVITATION. This is our annual invitation to you all – as our Friends, Volunteers and Supporters – from the
Trustees of Hope 4 (Rugby) Ltd to attend our AGM, which this year takes place on Saturday January 17 from
10.30–12.00 in the new Hope Centre, 8 Newbold Road, Rugby CV21 2LJ. For your information and prayers, the
AGM will end this year with a short ceremony (at 12.00) to mark the formal opening of the new Hope Centre. Over
the course of 2015 the new Hope Centre will then begin to be used in all kinds of creative ways in the service of
our objects as a charity: the relief of poverty, primarily among homeless people in Rugby and the
surrounding area. A buffet lunch – please RSVP using the information below - will also be served soon after
the close of the AGM, for those of you able to stay with us for a while. An agenda for the AGM can be found below.
A copy of our annual report for the year 2013-14 is also now available on-line: and if you would
also like a copy of the 2012-3 AGM record, please let one of us know.
STATISTICS. Our teams have now served well over 40000 meals through Hope 4U since opening in
2005. Usually around 20 guests come along and sometimes twice that figure! In 2010 the Hope
Centre (46 Church Street) was opened and continues to operate daily. Between February 2010 and
the end of October 2014 we had received 478 referred guests; welcomed them on 21440
occasions;served 20795 hot meals and 20431 pack ups’ Also, with the support of the Council’s
housing team and local housing agencies, we helped 130 of these guests to find housing. For four
winters now Hope 4 Rugby Ltd has also delivered a Winter Shelter scheme based in 7 church halls
here in the Borough of Rugby in partnership with the national Housing Justice Coalition and the REVIVE RUGBY
network of churches. During the past three winters around 50 different guests each year have used the shelter
over a four month period. The average age of these guests last winter was 32. Finally, in March 2012, in
partnership with the national Trussell Trust charity and the REVIVE network of churches, the Rugby Foodbank
was launched. By September 2014, we had already helped over 6000 local people experiencing food poverty.
Around 300 volunteers make the ongoing work of Hope 4 possible each year. This is a remarkable figure and
represents a considerable commitment of time, compassion and practical support each month. To each and
everyone of you – thank you. “Is not this the kind of fasting I have share your food with the
hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with shelter”. (Isaiah 58:6-7).
APPEAL. Now we need your help again in 2015 – as always! In two ways.1) For Capital
Funding. We still need £150,000 to complete a “New Hope Centre” appeal of £300,000.
We have already raised half of this sum and, with the help of a mortgage, have been able to
complete the purchase and begin the necessary refurbishment. We are now seeking to clear
this loan as soon as is practicable. 2) For Revenue Funding. We are currently working
towards securing the sum of £200,000 – from a variety of sources - to help consolidate our
charity’s revenue income during our second decade. It costs us around £5000 each month to continue our
DONATING. If you are in a position to do so, you can donate directly towards our
work a) by cheque payable to “Hope 4 (Rugby) Ltd; b) via Just Giving on the
