b. Registration and Tryout Information
i. You must pre-register for our tryouts. On-line tryout registration is available at the
Tryout Tab at www.daytonjuniorsvbc.com (does not commit player to our
program/tryouts).
ii. The OVR/USAV requires any player participating in tryouts to be a member of the
OVR/USAV.
1. If you played USAV last season your membership is good thru Oct 31, 2014.
Since all our 14 and under tryouts are done before that date you are covered if
you are trying out for 14 and under and played USAV last season.
2. If you did not play USAV last season, or you are trying out for 15s-18s, you must
go to the OVR website and register on-line to obtain a Tryout Membership
($10). If you make a team you will then have to go back and update to a full
membership and pay the remaining $52 fee (the total registration fee is $62).
This $62 fee is not part of our Club Fees since clubs do not register players and
do not pay for player OVR/USAV registration --- the OVR requires each parent
to register and pay for their daughter. You must print out your registration
confirmation/card and bring to your initial tryout. By OVR rule we cannot
allow you to participate in tryouts without proof of USAV registration.
iii. The Dayton Juniors $25 Tryout Fee is due at tryouts.
iv. All tryouts will be at the Dayton Juniors Training Facility.
v. Any player wishing to try out in an age group different than their defined age group must get
approval from Ernie Gilbert, (734-250-0923 or [email protected]). Also, contact
Ernie Gilbert with any concerns regarding current and future commitments.
vi. Each age group (13s-18s) will have combined National and American/Regional Team tryouts
vii. Player registration will reflect the level for which the athlete wants to be considered --- a:
National Only, b: American/Regional Only or c: Both.
viii. A player who registers as National Only or Both, and is selected for a National team, cannot
decline and then play for a Dayton Juniors American/Regional team.
ix. BEFORE leaving today, if you are unsure of the age group in which your athlete should try
out, please contact one of the Club Board members.

c. Selection Criteria (not all inclusive and in no particular order)
i. Athlete’s physical ability (example: jumping and speed)
ii. Athlete’s work ethic (example: hustle and willingness to try hard every time)
iii. Athlete’s sportsmanship (example: encouraging and cheering for other athletes)
iv. Athlete’s age in relation to the team for which the player is being considered
v. Athlete’s years with the club
vi. Only 3 girls from the same high school district are permitted on one team
vii. Athlete’s overall volleyball ability
d. Team Selection and Player Acceptance
i. 12s have two tryout sessions, after which Regional teams will be selected and called.
ii. 17s/18s have two tryout sessions. National teams and American/Regional teams will be
selected and called after the second session. However, an offer could be made sooner.
iii. 13s/14s/15s/16s have three tryout sessions scheduled. National teams will be selected and
called after the second session. However, an offer could be made sooner. Those not selected
for the National team and wanting to be considered for an American/Regional team should
come back for the third session, after which the American/Regional teams will be selected
and called.
iv. At the conclusion of the appropriate session, the coaches for that age group will review player
evaluations and identify team selections. Team selections are then reviewed to ensure
compliance with Club, OHSAA, OVR and USA Volleyball policies (age, number of players
from same school district, players not playing for school system coach, etc).
v. A coach from each team will call his/her team players and offer each one a position on the
team. Upon acceptance, we require the player provide an email confirmation to the coach.
vi. The tryout dates and the acceptance signing deadlines are provided in the table below. While
a player may wait until the signing deadline to respond, we sincerely hope their decision has
been thought through prior to that point. We highly encourage players to make a decision
when called. This allows all Clubs involved to call players off their waiting list in an
expeditious manner.

6. Participation Policies (attendance, etc)
a. The DJVBC will enforce the following practice and tournament attendance policy for every athlete.
This does not mean that the athlete cannot play another sport during their participation with the
DJVBC.
i. Athletes are expected to be at training sessions and tournaments. Attendance will be
tracked. Poor attendance may impact the athletes playing time.
ii. Training time is guaranteed. Playing time is not.
iii. The head coach must be informed in writing of all potential excused absences ASAP
and well in advance of the event. Excused absences are those due to participation in
high school sports events or mandatory school academic events.
1. Any other excusable events are to be approved by the head coach and/or the
Director of Volleyball Operations.
iv. Missing more than 1/2 of a training session counts as one absence. Flexibility will be
extended to school ending time and location as well as location of residence in
relation to practice site, weather conditions, etc.
v. Missing a part of any tournament counts as one absence.
1. For teams with a year ending National Tournament, participation in the
tournament is mandatory. Failure to comply with this policy may result in
expulsion from the club, unless the Director of Volleyball Operations
approves of the absence.
2. As needed, the Director of Volleyball Operations will evaluate tournament
absences with proper documentation on a case-by-case basis.
3. Missing tournaments does not warrant a reduction in fees.
vi. For every 3 unexcused absences the athlete will sit a set of a future tournament.
vii. Following 6 unexcused absences the Director of Volleyball Operations will review
the situation.
viii. Following 8 unexcused absences, and review by the Director of Volleyball
Operations, the athlete is subject to expulsion from the Club.
b. Automatic Expulsions
i. Smoking at any DJVBC activity.
ii. Using alcohol or drugs at any time during a DJVBC activity.
iii. Having boys in players’ room (other than relatives) or public displays of affection.
iv. Approaching a coach, athlete or any other club member in a non-appropriate manner at any
DJVBC activity.
c. If you make one of our teams, the player and parent will be required to sign the Player/Parent
Guidelines and a Club Contract. The coaches are required to sign the Coaches Guidelines and a Club
Contract.
d. As required by OVR policy, the parent will be required to individually register and pay the
registration fee ($62) on-line.
7. Training Schedules (subject to change)

8. Presidents’ Cup Tournament and Club Yearbook
a. Dayton Juniors Yearbook: Players have the opportunity to reduce their club fees by selling ads for the
yearbook. All ad money collected directly offsets the fees for that player. Ads and monies, as well as
the final club fee payment, are to be turned in no later than Feb 1st..
b. Presidents’ Cup Work Schedule: One parent for each child will be required to work a shift during the
tournament. A best effort will be made to keep parents at the same location as their child.
Players/Parents will not be required to set up or tear down the courts. This includes 12s–18s.
This tournament is a major Club undertaking and proceeds significantly reduce club fees.
9. Other Important Dates
a. The first club fee payment and signed contract are due on the player’s first day of training in
December. Players will not be allowed to train until these two items are completed.
b. Final fee payment and yearbook ads are due Feb 1, 2015
c. Sunday, January 18, 2015 is picture day from 12-3 pm at the Training Facility.
10. Instructional Program
As in the past, we anticipate offering a Volley Kids program as well as an Instructional Program for older
players in the spring. Please monitor the DJVBC website for further details.
