RDA-Workshop 2014
“Cycling holidays, E-bikes & Co.”
Exhibitor Invitations for the 40th RDA-Workshop from 29th – 31st July 2014 in Cologne
are available from the RDA-Workshop Touristic Service GmbH. “Offer quality, display
variety and win groups!” is the business motto for the largest international sales,
purchasing and B2B platform for the coach holidays and group travel sectors.
The theme of this year's RDA-Workshop Special Offers Marketing Campaign and Trend
Forum presentations is “Cycling holidays, E-bikes & Co.” - an excellent theme for UK
exhibitors in particular and one with considerable potential and appeal for trade visitors.
Cycling tourism has been booming for years and has developed into an important
tourism growth segment. Cycle outings and cycling holidays achieve gross sales of ca.
EURO 4 billion in Germany, according to research conducted by the German Tourism
Federation - over 22 million overnights and rising steadily being generated by bicycle
tourists.
An increasing number of coach and group tour operators are positioning themselves
with offers that appeal to this broad target-group – from guests seeking simple
relaxation, to sightseeing buffs and fully-fledged cycling enthusiasts. One trend - which
cannot be ignored - is the growing popularity of e-bikes. More and more regions and
coach holiday operators are offering e-bike rentals, customized e-bike sales and special
e-bike tours.
E-bikes are healthy, fun and environment-friendly. This is a welcome fact which serves
to attract new customers to coach holiday travel. There are already over 2 million ebikes in Germany alone. E-bikes allow more coach tourists to enjoy relaxing cycle tours
as part of their daily tour programmes and to explore alternative routes off the beaten
track – and most importantly, to participate in trips with their partners or in select tours
formerly reserved for younger or fitter individuals.

Fact sheet on VAT on international passenger transport services using buses or
coaches that are not registered in the Federal Republic of Germany
The German Federal Ministry of Finance has published a detailed fact sheet on VAT on
international passenger transport services using buses or coaches that are not
registered in the Federal Republic of Germany
This document is available for download at:
http://www.rda.de/uploads/media/BMF_Factsheet_VAT_on_international_passenger_Tr
ansport.pdf
Passenger transport services are subject to value added tax (VAT) in the Federal
Republic of Germany. The taxation of these services is prescribed under European law
by Directive 2006/112/EC on the common system of value added tax VAT Directive.
Like any other service that a business performs for consideration, passenger transport
services using buses or coaches are subject to VAT. This is the case regardless of
whether the transport operation is performed by a domestic or foreign business,
whether the passengers are domestic or foreign, or whether the passengers are youths
or adults/senior citizens.
This also applies to both regular and occasional passenger transport services. In the
case of passenger transport services that span both the territory of the Federal Republic
of Germany as well as the territory of other countries, only that part of the service that
takes place on German territory is taxable in the Federal Republic of Germany.
