Happy Holidays to All!
The Husky Happenings is a bi-weekly newsletter
CMS Selected
Crabapple Middle School has been selected to represent schools across the nation by participating in the National Assessment of Educational
Progress (NAEP) on February 19, 2015. NAEP is the largest nationally representative and continuing assessment of what students know and can do
in various subject areas. It is administered by the National Center for Education Statistics within the U.S. Department of Education. NAEP has
identified a select group of 8th grade students to take a mathematics, reading, or science assessment. In addition to answering questions in one of
these subjects, students will be asked questions about themselves and their educational experiences. Parents of selected students will receive a
letter with more information from Crabapple Middle School in the US Mail.
CCRPI Score
Each year, the Georgia Department of Education releases the CCRPI scores for all scores in Georgia. This comprehensive score rates schools, on a
100 point scale, on their academic performance in the four major content areas as well as our performance in addressing achievement gaps and
growth within our subgroups. Crabapple Middle School’s score for the 2013 – 2014 year is 92.9. This score remains unchanged from the 2012 –
2013 year. This is a high score that we are very proud to maintain. We increased our overall Achievement points by .8! We, as a school, will be
disaggregating this data further when we return in January and having discussions about forward steps. If you would like more information about
CCRPI, please visit the Georgia Department of Education website, www.gadoe.org.
Personalized Yearbook Ads for 8th Graders
Your child's eighth grade experience lasts only one year but the memories will last forever. Show your student how special he or she is by
purchasing a personal dedication ad in the yearbook! Just complete the attached form and include your photos and a message. We will do the rest
by designing and eye catching ad or you can choose to design it yourself. Make checks payable to CMS and notate "ad" in the memo section. All

Hardship Application Information
Applications will be available beginning January 1st for parents who wish to apply for a 2015-2016 hardship transfer or to renew a current hardship to
another Fulton elementary, middle or high school. Parents will use an online form, available through the Student Assignment Office’s website, to
enter and submit their information. Hard copy applications are not required this year, with the exception of medical transfers which require pertinent
medical provider’s signatures and documentation. The deadline for submitting a transfer application is February 17, 2015, by 4:30 p.m., with no
exceptions or extensions granted. All requests must be received or postmarked by this date and time. The February 17 deadline applies to students
and parents seeking a hardship transfer for medical reasons, curriculum differences, and/or child care situations. School system employees’ children
who want to submit or renew a hardship transfer request have the same deadline and must use the online application located in the employee portal.
Schools participating in open enrollment, a separate transfer process that allows students to move to a school with available space, will be
announced in early May. Parents with questions or who need more information about hardship transfers can contact the Fulton County Schools’
Student Assignment Office at 404-763-5550 or visit the Student Assignment website.

PTA News
It is never too late to join PTA! PTA memberships start as low as $10 for basic, $25 for single, and $50 for dual. You have a choice with PTA - your
time, funding, or both - all directly affect your child's school experience and the quality of our school. Membership pays for itself - check
out http://www.georgiapta.org/join-pta/membership-benefits. There are various benefits, like 40% off your Papa John's online order, Zoo Atlanta
discounts, etc. The CMS PTA help funds vital school programs for your child and you (examples include: Husky Pride Positive Behavior Program,
Heritage Day, 8th grade dance and trip, Learn-n-Serve Garden, Grandparents Coffee, Mathletes Mentoring, Scoliosis Screening, etc). These
programs directly affect and improve the quality of your child's school. You can join via their website at http://www.cms-pta.org/membership. Not
only does it support our school monetarily and via volunteers, it is a great way to meet other parents and get involved in issues affecting your child's
school.
If you’re a Facebook user, please be sure to go and “like” the Crabapple Middle School PTA Facebook page! The PTA will be using this page to
post important information and reminders about school events and PTA initiatives.
Turn In Your Box Tops!
The Box Tops for Education committee would like to remind all parents that CMS continues to collect Box Tops. This is such an easy way to raise
FREE money for our school. We are not planning any contests, so please send in your box tops at your leisure, and tell your child to turn them in to
their homeroom teachers. Last year, we raised in excess of $800, one little clipping at a time! Thank you for your support. Every Box Top Counts!
Newsletter Information
Please send article submissions to: Dana Pearson, Newsletter Editor, at [email protected] Articles are due each Wednesday by
3:00pm for that week’s edition.
We encourage all parents to visit the School Governance Council page on our school website, www.crabapplemiddleschool.org, to view our 3 year
strategic plan.
