Announcement of a new plant construction
for one billion units spark plugs production per year
Nagoya, December 18, 2014 ―NGK SPARK PLUG CO., LTD. (President and CEO: Shinichi
Odo, Headquarters: Nagoya) is pleased to announce that our 100% owned subsidiary,
NITTOKU SEISAKUSHO CO., LTD. (President: Mamoru Kodera, Headquarters: Nagoya
Minami-ku; hereafter Nittoku Seisakusho), decided to build a new plant in Komaki Techno
Junction.
Purpose of a New Plant Construction
We have grown our spark plugs as a flagship, high-quality and high-performance products. Our
spark plugs have been delivered to customers around the world, and we have built a position of
the world's top share. In the future, the world demand for the spark plug is expected to keep
increasing mainly in developing countries. In order to correspond to this demand, it is
indispensable to establish a global production and supply management system. We have
invested with the aim of one billion units of production system in 2020, and in April 2014, we
built "NITTOKU SparkTec TONO" in Kani-city, Gifu Prefecture, which is the new plant of
spark plugs’ insulator. From April 2015, a new plant for metal shell of “SparkTec THAILAND"
will begin its operation.
The new plant of NITTOKU SEISAKUSHO is a part of investment for one billion units of
production system in 2020. In this plant, we will produce center electrodes and terminals of
spark plugs. Currently, we have manufactured in Headquarters, Komaki, NITTOKU
SEISAKUSHO Kasadera and Oguchi plants. We will promote the integration of center
electrodes and terminals production of spark plugs into this new plant.
