Volume 12, Issue 2• February 2014
Inside this issue: Lidoderm® updates
Effective January 1, 2014, the manufacturer of Lidoderm® (lidocaine patch 5%) no longer provides assistance
with this medication. Previously the University Health System (UHS) Medication Assistance Program (MAP)
assisted CareLink members with receiving Lidoderm® from the manufacturer. Lidoderm® is not on the UHS
medication formulary and is not routinely stocked by our pharmacies.
CareLink suggests transitioning patients to current formulary alternatives. To aid in this transition, CareLink
will subsidize Lidoderm® until 3/31/14 for continuation of therapy in patients previously receiving Lidoderm
through MAP. Providers may submit a non-formulary request for Lidoderm® coverage for individual patients
who have failed or are intolerant to formulary alternatives. Patients who are prescribed a non-covered drug
also have the option of purchasing the medication at patients’ full cost at a retail pharmacy.
