Connecting physician office staff to the Providence EHR
Care link will allow community physicians and referring physicians to stay informed of critical events
happening to their patients in other care settings. For Providence, the goal of Epic Care Link is to create
a continuity of care between Providence and physicians in the community. Each user of care link will be
assigned a security template based on their professional credentials and their role within the clinics.
Each role allows different viewing capacity and functionality within the chart.

There are 7 Different Roles in Care Link

Each Role Allows Different Functionality within the System
1. Biller: The biller role should be assigned to any office staff whose primary role is
reviewing charts for determining coding and posting charges. Highlights of the biller role
functionality include ability to view the following information:
a. View: Patient Demographics, Chart Review, Histories, Face sheet, Results
Review, Problem List, Benefits, Eligibility, Requisition Review, Lab Results
Reports
b. Limited messaging and InBasket capability
2. Front Desk: The front desk role should be assigned to any office staff whose primary
responsibility is registering, check in and checkout of patients. Highlights of the front
desk functionality include the ability to view and add the following:
a. View: Patient Demographics, Benefits, Eligibility, Referral Review, Community
Order Review
b. Add: Able to add a note to the referral
c. Limited messaging and InBasket capability
3. Clinical User with Orders (RN): The clinical user with Orders (RN) role should be assigned
to anyone who holds the professional credential of RN and primary responsibility is
patient care. Highlights of the Clinical User with Orders (RN) functionality include the
ability to view and add the following:
a. View: Patient snapshot, Demographics, Histories, Face sheet, Results Review
Flow sheets, Growth Charts, Allergies, Problem List, Eligibility, Referral Review,
Reports, Current Medications, Referral Attachments, Requisition reviewspecimen details, Lab Results

b. Add/Order: Lab/Radiology/Referral Order Entry, Add note to referral.
c. Limited messaging and InBasket capability
4. Clinical User NO Orders (MA): The clinical user NO Orders (MA) role should be assigned
to anyone who holds the professional credential of MA and primary responsibility is
patient care. Highlights of the Clinical User with NO Orders (MA) functionality include
the ability to view and add the following:
a. View: Patient snapshot, Demographics, Histories, Face sheet, Results Review
Flow sheets, Growth Charts, Allergies, Problem List, Eligibility, Referral Review,
Reports, Current Medications, Referral Attachments, Requisition reviewspecimen details, Lab Results
b. Add: Add note to referral
c. Limited messaging and InBasket capability
5. Physician (MD, DO, Midlevel): The Physician role should be assigned to anyone who
holds the professional credential of MD, DO, PA, ARNP and primary responsibility is
patient care. Highlights of the Physician functionality include the ability to view and add
the following:
a. View: Patient snapshot, Demographics, Histories, Face sheet, Results Review
Flow sheets, Growth Charts, Allergies, Problem List, Eligibility, Referral Review,
Reports, Current Medications, Referral Attachments, Requisition reviewspecimen details, Lab Results
b. Add/Order: Lab/Radiology/Referral Order Entry, Add note to referral
c. Limited messaging and InBasket capability
6. Site Administrator with Orders: Each organization will need to designate a site
administrator. This Site Administrator with Orders role falls to an office manager that is
also hold the RN credentials. Highlights of the Site Administrator with Orders
functionality include the ability to view and add the following:
a. View: Patient snapshot, Chart Review, Demographics, Histories, Face sheet,
Results Review Flow sheets, Growth Charts, Allergies, Problem List, Eligibility,
Referral Review, Reports, Current Medications, Requisition review-specimen
details, Lab Results
b. Add/Order: Lab/Radiology/Referral Order Entry, Edit Other User’s
Demographics, View/ Create new user requests
c. Limited messaging and InBasket capability
7. Site Administrator with No Orders: Each organization will need to designate a site
administrator. This Site Administrator with Orders role falls to an office manager that is
also hold the RN credentials. Highlights of the Site Administrator with Orders
functionality include the ability to view and add the following:
