testing your colour
To make sure that you have selected the perfect colour for
your walls, always test it using a Wattyl Colour Designer
sample pot. Paint your colour out on a large piece of paper or
cardboard. Then test it under different lighting conditions
and against your accessories, furniture and other wall
colours to ensure you have made the right selection.
choosing the right product
Wattyl Interior Design has a selection of products to suit the
different requirements of each room in your home. Whether
you need a tough, extra durable product for your trims and
doors, or a beautiful, subtle matt finish for your feature wall.
Choose from the extensive range of finishes in our range:
Contemporary Matt, Luxury Low Sheen and Silky Satin.

bit of fun
Kids’ rooms are quite literally the stuff dreams are
made of – an environment for kids to learn and grow up in.
Although initially the prospect of creating your child’s room can
be daunting, there are a few simple steps you can take to make
the process easier.
Gather Inspiration. Keep a scrapbook or a folder and pull together
as much reference material as you can from sources like this
helpful booklet, magazines and the internet (just Googling ‘kids
rooms’ will give you over 18 million results) to find themes that
bring a room together. Whether it’s a beloved character from our
Looney Toons cast, a passion for cars or music, or even a favourite
place like the beach or the jungle, once you decide on a theme
everything just falls into place.
Choose your colours. Firstly, think about the type of colours you
want and the mood you want to create. For instance vibrant,
warm colours like reds, oranges and hot pinks are stimulating and
energising, while cool colours like softer blues and greens can
be soothing and restful, with neutral colours like whites,
creams and taupes being understated and calm
Rather than settling on just one colour (which
can lack interest) look for two or three
colours that complement each other.
You’ll find lots of suggestions in the
Wattyl Colour Designer System
in-store or online.

start to life
Planning the colour of a nursery is a very exciting time. From
vibrant colours to soft neutrals and pastels, the options are
almost endless. There is no right or wrong, just personal
taste. Our orange and yellow nursery above is a good example
of a creative, vibrant break with tradition.
Before you start, think about the overall layout of the nursery.
The cot, change table and armchair are the centrepieces of
the room so your colour scheme should take its cue from
these pieces. Alternatively, you can paint your furniture to suit
the colour scheme of your choice. You’ll find lots of fun images
for you to download and print out as well as plenty of tips at
variations on a nursery
Use colour to create the mood and
personality that suits you.

Toddlers’ rooms are great places for colour and imagination - a
place for kids to learn and explore. Creativity is developed in these
vital years, so giving your kids easy access to books, crafts and
toys will help their development. This orange and red wall has a
sense of vibrancy with a striking stripe around the room.

Blues and deep purples create a restful atmosphere perfect for a
hyper toddler. The horizontal purple stripe adds a splash of colour.
Painting on a chalkboard is an easy, economical and
environmentally friendly way to encourage your kids’ creativity.

Think about contrasting colours - green with a splash of orange
looks sensational. Painting furniture for added pops of colour
is a great way to breathe new life into old furniture. Finding
old pieces in op shops or garage sales and painting them is
an inexpensive way of getting a designer look. Don’t worry if
you’re not a cartoonist - all images in the picture frames can be
downloaded from www.wattyl.com.au - and if you’re wondering
how to create the circles, simply read the tip below...
To achieve circles on your wall use different sized
plates, platters or even the lids of large garbage cans
as a guide. Alternatively cut out contact paper or a
piece of plastic to use as a stencil. Then simply use
the larger one for the outside, the smaller one for the
inside and then paint with two contrasting colours.

Purple is a fun, fashionable colour for kids of all ages. You can achieve this
look by downloading the repetitive carrot pattern at www.wattyl.com.au or by
simply cutting out a carrot-shaped pattern yourself, photocopying it as many
times as you need to make a frieze around the wall, tracing around it with a
pencil and then painting in, when you’re happy.
