Miter Corner Connections as Push-In Corners
All outside-frame and casement profiles are punch-connected with the corner bracket EW 3000-4N.
First, the profiles are cut to size, and de-greased with grease
solvent. A grease solvent is to be used which will not damage the visible painted surface.
Then, corner brackets are pushed into the frame profiles,
and additionally, stiffening angles into the reception grooves
of the casement profiles, the corners are fitted together, aligned, and punched together from above with a hydraulic
punch.
The completed frames are placed level, lying on their visible
sides, and left to dry until the glue hardens.

The Miter Bracket as a Diagonal Element
For corners for diagonal elements, the adjustable corner
bracket EW 3000-4VN is used.
After profile-cutting and de-greasing, glue is spread into the
reception groove. Then, the adjustable corner bracket is
pushed into the reception groove, and the corners aligned.
Then, the two screws are tightened evenly with a Torx screwdriver T30, turning in direction of the miter, one to the left
and one to the right, until the mesh catches perceptibly.

Note!
If hinges by A/S J. Petersens. IPA No. 11976 or equivalent
hinges are used, the block-out of the casement and frame
profiles can be dispensed with (Fig. 3).
If hidden hinges or hinges with longer installment tabs are
used, it is unnecessary to block out the aluminum profiles.
Aluminum frames for casements can then be installed after
assembly is complete.
Mullion profiles are installed on the mullion with plastic clipon holders DK 2.

Installation of the aluminum frame on the wooden
element:
Before the installation of the aluminum casement frame, the
dry-glazing gasket HA 3060 is rolled into the profile groove
for 26 mm glass thickness (Fig. 1). At the miter brackets, the
gasket is pulled around, and forms a closed corner. The
maximum-stretched gasket lip should be notched approx. 3
mm at the corner, so that the gasket can be passed clean
and without defect around the corner. The joint of the gasket
is realized at the upper cross profile. The gasket should be
put in place with approximately 1% over-length.
The attachment of the aluminum frame at the casement is
carried out with plastic pivot holders DH 4-8 or similar
products. The axial dimensions of the holders are to be taken
from the detail drawings.
For installation, press the aluminum frame forcefully by hand
onto the holder, and simultaneously fasten it to the profile
chamber with a 90° turn with the installation wrench. If the
aluminum frame must later be disassembled, this can be
done with a 90° turn of the wrench.
Place the holders on the casement frame, and screw on with
3.5 x 20 mm stainless-steel countersunk screws.
The holders are to be spaced at intervals of no more than
approx. 250 mm.
Note that the first holder should be placed no closer than
approx. 80 mm from the wooden corner (see MIRA System).
The attachment of the aluminum frames to the outer frame is
to be done with pivot holders DK 2. The axial dimensions of
the holders are to be taken from the detail-drawings.
The outer frame and mullion profiles are to be cut blunt to
the lower outer frame.
The lower outer frame is to be covered with a transom cover
of aluminum. The transom cover is blocked out until the
outer frame is cut outside and stuck together with silicone.
The lateral connection joints are to be sealed with silicone.
In the area of the hinges, the aluminum casement and frame
profiles (Fig. 2) must be blocked out. In this case, the installation of the aluminum casement is possible only if the
wooden casement has already been installed at the outer
frame.

Wood Components
Aluminum Extrusion Products
The quality of the wood complies with DIN 68360 Part 1
“Wood for Carpentry; Quality Requirements for Exterior
Applications”. The maximum value of the humidity content of
individual parts may not exceed 15%. The dispersion of the
humidity content generally may not exceed 4%, or 2% if
wedge-shaped prongs are used for horizontal joints or with
laminated corss sections. The humidity content must be
measured before beginningwith any profiling work and clearly documented.
Since 1886, when it first became possible to produce
aluminum on a large technical scale using fusion electrolysis, this material has quickly advanced to one of the most
important commodity metals. Due to its light weight, decorative surface finish, easy workability and enormous resistance to weather, aluminum has become very important
especially in the construction industry.
Frame joints of wood profiles
The frames are joined using tongue and groove. Double
tongues must be used for frame joints with a wood thickness
of at least 45mm; In this cae, the outer frames must not
be thicker than approx. 16mm.
Profile machining - wood
DIN 68805 applies for wood protection. Only substances that
have been tested for compatibility with paint coats may be
used as wood preservatives.
The coating material must fulfil DIN 18363 and the “Technicl
Requirements for Window Painting”.
Perfect System Profiles from
GUTMANN for Window Construction
GUTMANN aluminum system profiles for the wood industry
are developed in close cooperation with the Institute for
Window Technology in Rosenheim, Germany as well as
window, hardware fitting and milling tool manufacturers.
Among others, the following manufacturers deliver milling
tools for wood windows and doors that are
customized for GUTMANN system profiles.
28
In the extrusion process, the tooling (mould) is firmly fixed
in position. The extrusion die with projected disk then presses the heated ram against the tooling which closes the
recipient at the exit side and compresses the ram against
the recipient interior side. Then the extruded profile begins
to exit in the same direction as the forward movement of
the die.
Alloy of aluminum profiles:
AlMgSi 0.5, F 22
GUTMANN system profiles comply with DIN 17615
and DIN 1748.
G U T M A N N
Profile machining - wood
Pprofile machining is to be perfomed according to DIN
68121, “Wood Window and Door Profiles” and DIN 18361,
“Vitrification”.
Like no other type of semi-product manufacturing, the
extrusionof aluminum materials makes it possible to produce a huge variety of shapes, from a simple solid profile to a
complicated hollow section.

Information on the Installation
of Aluminum in the Construction
Industry
Aluminum is one of the most precious and decorative metals
used in the construction industry. Therefore, when installing
aluminum parts, the following should be carefully observed:
Installation and joining of Gutmann aluminum system
profiles should be performed according to the “RAL Quality
Assurance Guidelines for Installation”.
G U T M A N N
Metals such as lead, copper or alloys containing copper (e.g.
brass) may not be fitted together with aluminum (not even in
the context of fluids). Galvanized steel components as well
as fine steel or zinc parts can be processed with aluminum
without any problems.
Aluminum components may not be exposed to strains such
as scratching or impacts. They should only be fitted after
all masonry, stucco and plaster as well as stone and slab
work has been completed in order to avoid any damage to
the surface from e.g. chalk and cement splatters. Any contamination by alkaline substances must be removed
immediately since damages cannot normally be repaired on
site.
If masonry and plaster works are to be performed after fitting
anodized or coated aluminumcomponents, it is best to protect these against construction materials by covering them
with self-adhesive, smooth UV-proof plastic foil designed for
this purpose. The protective foil should be applied before
delivery since it also protects the pieces from any transport
damage.
Aluminum profiles (e.g. metal windowsills, floor thresholds
and rain protection rails) must always be fixed using stainless
steel V2A screws.
Since aluminum has a different expansion behaviour, it
should not be fixed within plaster or the body of the
construction. The joining of aluminum and the construction
should always be sliding.
The change in length amounts to approx. 1.2 mm/m at a
temperature difference of 50°.
Profiles with lengths of more than 3000 mm should not be
fitted without a butt joint (expansion joint).
Cleaning Aluminum
in the Construction Industry
Aluminum is frequently used in window and facade construction due to its low weight, its durability and especially
due to its decorative surfaces.
In order to maintain the decorative look of aluminum components, they must be cleaned at regular intervals, depending
on the degree of dirt due to environmental effects and the
standards of the builder.
After fitting the components, and before final acceptance,
the aluminum parts must be throughly cleaned to remove
any dirt present. Use clean cloths and sponges for this
purpose.
Anodised surfaces should be cleaned with warm water to
which a chlorine-free cleanser (e.g. dishwashing liquid) has
been added. Only water and a cloth or sponge should be
used.
If the surfaces are very dirty, we recommend using special
anodising cleansers which are based on abrasive sustances.
For powder-coated components, light dirt should be cleaned in the same way as with anodized components. After
cleaning, the parts should be thoroughly rinsed with clear
water.
For very dirty components, use special cleansers like lacquer
cleansers or polishes, such as the following Gutmann products:
• Abrasive cleanser for coated profiles
• Pre-cleanser for coated profiles
• Surface care for coated profiles
For damaged surfaces, colour sprays are available from
Gutmann:
• Anodised spray in the colours EV1, G214 and G216
• Colour spray in RAL 9016 white

Powder Coating of Aluminum
What you should also know
With powder coating, aluminum profiles can be coloured in
any tone on the RAL chart. The broad range of colours is
especially suitable for decorative use in exterior architecture.
Please note:
We strongly recommend carefully checking the profiles and
accessories before fitting.
Electrostatic powder coating is a relatively young, but proven
lacquering process which results in decorative, consistent
and lasting surfaces.
Please note that any liability is limited to the value of the
profiles and accessories.
This is particularly true in the case of costs and damages
resulting, for example, from an exchange involving removal
and refitting. This is also true for material damages according
to §§ 823 ff BGB (German Civil Code) and warranty claims
due to material and construction errors, errors of instruction,
processing and fitting as well as for any consequential
damages.
Our aluminum profiles are powder coated by our partners
who are members of the ‘International Quality Association
for Piecework Coating of Aluminum Components’, GSB.
Legal claims remain unaffected.
It is not possible to guarantee the exact colour tone and
sheen based on the Gutmann colour chart, since variations
in colours may occur due to different production procedures
and pigmentation.
The Gutmann colour chart thus provides only a guide and
should not be used as a model for production.
